Welcome

My name is Harry and I enjoy talking about and playing video games. I have recently graduated from my game design course and currently trying to get into the industry but while I do that I’m going to post to this blog. I will talk about aspects of my favourite games which I enjoy and maybe some areas which I believe could be improved to make a better experience for the play.

I hope you enjoy.

World of Warcraft Classic

Having spent many enjoyable hours of my childhood playing World of Warcraft I was interested in the announcement of World of Warcraft Classic! Was I going to experience again the perfect MMORPG?

Although the game didn’t totally live up to the hype, I did enjoy levelling in a world which I hadn’t experienced in 10 years but I wasn’t enamoured playing solo, the fun moments were the moments you interacted with a group. As the game is a grind you need the interaction with other players to keep it interesting and to keep you hooked. I believe that Classic is perfect for someone who plays Retail World of Warcraft and is looking for a tougher experience or a nostalgia trip.

What separates Classic from Retail is the sense of achievement, in Retail there isn’t a challenge until you reach the max level and start raiding. Classic is different as every quest is a challenge even at low level, every time you enter a cave you have a sense of dread and excitement as you don’t know how many wipes you are going to face until you complete the quest inside.

I know Classic isn’t for everyone, as I can see many players finding it too challenging and time consuming however if you are up for the trails of levelling I would highly recommend it as it was an exhilarating experience and I will definitely return to Classic as it was as it’s the most enjoyable MMORPG I’ve ever played.

Spider-Man (PS4) Review

After completing the game after its launch in 2018, I began to re-play it this week and it brought back a lot of fond memories. The reasons I enjoyed this game was simply that it kept me captivated by making me constantly traverse the map. This is because during the three acts you are required to complete various objectives which are linked in with the story, like defeating prisoners in the Financial District which open up the ability to fight bosses like Tombstone. Because there is a constant supply of objectives and mini-games between and during the acts I never felt from the start of the story to the end that I was mindlessly swinging around New York… I always had a path to follow. However, that wouldn’t have been such a bad thing because that’s the highlight of the game. After playing it again, I realised that what makes the swinging around so enjoyable is that the overall mechanics aren’t over complicated. All you have to do is hold down the right trigger to swing and release when you want to launch into the air, which allows the player to traverse the map with ease and speed. You feel like you are actually Spider-Man which is amazing for a game to archive and what makes the game appealing to all ages. As every comic book fan (young and old) wonders what it would be like to be Spider-Man and this game delivers that perfectly.
